Melville

Thriving business, industry, tourist attraction, and family destination.

Welcome to Melville

Beautiful town centered in Long Island

Melville was first known as Samuel Ketcham's Valley in the 17th century, after one of the area's early residents. Sweet Hollow is thought to have been named because of the enormous population of honey bees and wild honey found in the hollows of trees in the area. According to school records, the name was changed to Melville in 1854, most likely derived from the Latin word "mel," which means "honey."

Melville is currently a thriving business, industry, tourist attraction, and family destination. It didn't start out that way, like many other places on Long Island. Melville has a long and illustrious history, which draws hundreds of visitors, businesses, and inhabitants.
