A town with the perfect mix of rural and city life

Syosset is surrounded by the villages or hamlets of Oyster Bay Cove, Laurel Hollow, Woodbury, Plainview, Hicksville, and Muttontown in the town of Oyster Bay. People in Syosset enjoy a rural lifestyle, and the majority of residents have purchased real estate here. There are several restaurants, coffee shops, and nature parks in Syosset that residents get to enjoy. Syosset is home to a large number of families. Syosset's public schools are well regarded and highly-rated as some of the best in New York.

In the mid-nineteenth century, Syosset was known as East Woods, though some people dubbed it Buckwheat, after a local crop. East Woods was in the path when the Long Island Rail Road extended its main line between Hicksville and Cold Spring Harbor in 1854. Syosset was a rural town prior to the coming of the railroad. Farmers transported their fruit, dairy, and meats by horse and wagon to bigger towns on Long Island and, later, to New York City.
